The election of the new Speaker of Parliament will be conducted on Friday.

This follows the death of Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah at a Seattle Hospital in the United States of America.

Government Chief Whip, Hon Thomas Tayebwa, said in a notice to all members of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus on Monday that he was directed by the Party Chairman President Museveni to call a special caucus meeting on Thursday March 24, 2022, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds to discuss the issue of Speaker of Parliament.

“All members are required to undertake a COVID test,” said Hon Tayebwa, who is also the chairperson of the NRM parliamentary Caucus.

“This procedure will take place on Tuesday 22nd March 2022 from 9:00am-4:00pm and Wednesday 23rd March 2022 from 9:00am12:00noon at the Parliamentary Conference Hall,” he added.

He said only members who have taken the test with the prescribed service provider at the Parliamentary Conference Hall will attend the caucus.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Anitah Among will travel to the NRM Electoral Commission along Kyadondo Road tomorrow, Tuesday morning to express her interest for the position of Speaker of Parliament.
