Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has arrested two Lt Colonels of the Chieftaincy of Logistics and Engineering.

It is alleged that the senior officers and four others were found with fuel cards worth billions of shillings.

The suspects are; Lt Col Kumanya Denis, Lt Col Benoni Muhinda, Warrant Officer (WO) 1 Okello, Sgt Victor Kwesiga and two others.

Impeccable sources that asked not to be named told SoftPower News that the suspects on Thursday appeared before the Unit Disciplinary Committee (UDC) sitting at the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) in Mbuya.

They were further remanded to Makindye Military Barracks.

The Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, confirmed that there is an investigation of the said officers.

On Friday, several online news sites carried reports that Brig Gen Charles Bakahumura, the Chief of Logistics and Engineering, had been arrested by CMI.

Speaking to this news site, Brig Gen Kulayigye dismissed the reports as fake.

“Some officers under him were arrested and investigations are ongoing, but not the General,” he said.

Contacted, Brig Gen Bakahumura also said he was not arrested: “It is not true and I don’t know the intentions of the people who are writing and spreading such falsehoods.”

“I guess it is out of malice,” he added.
