Mulago Hospital Executive Director Hands Over Office

Dr Baterana Byarugaba, the Executive Director of Mulago Referral Hospital has this morning handed over office to his deputy Rosemary Byanyima.

Byarugaba commonly know as BB was arrested last week by the State House Health Monitoring Unit led by Dr. Warren Namara over alleged embezzlement and fraud of shs 28 billion.

He was charged at Jinja Road Police with 4 counts of embezzlement, abuse of office, fraudulent false accounting and causing financial loss contrary to section 23 of Anti-Corruption act.

Dr Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary of the (PS) Ministry of Health instructed the Doctor to immediately step aside and hand over office to his deputy.

“You are therefore required to hand over office to your deputy director Rosemary Byanyima in accordance with section F-d(4) of the public service standing orders and keep away from your duty station until you are advised otherwise. During this period you shall not leave the country without my written permission,” Diana’s letter reads.

“Pursuant to section F-s and F-s of the public service standing orders 2021, you are hereby interdicted from duty to pave way for investigations and you will receive half pay with immediate effect until the charges against you have been cleared,” the letter further reads.
