Joshua Cheptegei Wins Cannes 10km Road Race

Uganda’s Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei won the Cannes 10km road race on Sunday, March 6, 2022 with a new World-leading and French all-comers record.

He took the victory at Cannes 10Km in 26 minutes and 49 seconds after steering ahead of Kenya’s Samuel Habtom at 27:51.

Uganda’s Abel Sikowo came in 3rd place at 27:58.

“Happy to start my season with a 10k world-leading time of 26:49 (6th fastest of all time) it gives me joy and hope leading to @WCHoregon22. I thank God almighty for the grace to run strong again after a long time. I am optimistic that this year God will do something great,” he tweeted.

The City of Cannes tweeted calling Cheptegei’s win the “Best world performance of the year and in history on French soil”.

According to Marathon News, Cheptegei’s victory is the 6th best time over that distance.

Cheptegei adds this feat onto an Olympic 5,000m gold and a 10,000m in Tokyo which saw him promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) last year.
