The Commander of the Land Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Lt General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has questioned the motives behind the ongoing censure motion against the Security Minister Maj Gen (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi.
For the past weeks, members of opposition led by the leader of opposition, Mathias Mpuuga, launched efforts to censure the security minister for allegedly abdicating responsibility in the face of alleged torture of Ugandans, a move that has since stagnated with only 81 members having signed on the censure motion.
However, reacting to the move to censure him, Muhwezi said that government does not support torture, does not do it, and no such case has been proven.
He added that there is no basis for censuring him for something he doesn’t support, has not done or condoned.
“The government of Uganda strongly condemns any acts of torture.President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been very vocal against torture,” he said.
Muhoozi noted that, if torture is identified, the officer responsible is punished according to Ugandan laws.
Commenting on the same through his Twitter handle, Muhoozi said, “Why are people harassing Honourable Afande Jim K Muhwezi over so called ‘torture’ cases when I can announce right now that since Operation Shujaa began on the 30th of November 2021 we have killed no less than 1,000 ADF terrorists?!.”
Muhoozi added that, General Muhwezi is the best Minister of Security Ever, noting, “He is doing a Great Job in coordinating all the various security agencies and he has been guiding me in Operation Shujaa!”
Commenting further on Operation Shujaa, Muhoozi said, “I, Lt. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Commander Land Forces of UPDF can promise the people of Uganda that we have already killed 1,000 of the terrorists that attacked us in November.”
He assured the people of North Kivu and Ituri, that the joint operation is going to terrorise the terrorists.
