President Yoweri Museveni has assured Ugandans that the country’s economy will be fully reopened in January 2021.

Museveni noted that he will reopen the sectors of the economy that are still locked up, whether people are vaccinated or not.

“Whether people go for vaccination or not, we shall still reopen the economy but if anything goes wrong, the moral responsibility is yours,” he said.

The president while addressing the nation on Thursday, said that by the end of December 2021, the government will have received about 23 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines which are able to vaccinate more than 12 million Ugandans, and among these should be the 4.8 million vulnerable Ugandan.

The 4.8 million, include frontline workers like security personnel, teachers, non-teaching staff in education institutions, medical personnel those above 50 years with underlying illnesses among others.

Museveni also dismissed claims that Ugandans are refusing to get vaccinated but noted that they are just not sensitized well on the vaccines.

“I don’t believe that Ugandans are refusing to get vaccinated, they are just not told. I now want to inform you that vaccines are available at the health centres. I am telling Ugandans that vaccines for frontline workers and other categories are available,” he said.

Museveni directed local government leaderships to ensure that people are mobilised to go for vaccination.
