Three Next Media Services presenters have been remanded to Kitalya Prison after they were charged with offensive communication and criminal libel.
Isaac Kawalya alias Kayz, Bryan Kennedy Waako and Williams Makuliro alias Mako are accused of attacking artiste Emmanual Ssuuna alias Omulangira Ssuuna- on television.
Three of the accused appeared in Buganda Road Magistrate Court where they were charged and remanded until October 15.
Ibrahim Tusubira alias Isma Olaxess, the president of Uganda Bloggers Association, who is also accused of the same offences was still on the run.
Ssuna says the presenters committed the crime while appearing on ‘the Morning Express’ a morning show at Sanyuka TV
Kayz and Waako are presenters on the show while Maako is their producer.
The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) spokesperson, ASP Charles Twiine confirmed the charges against the four people saying that the case file was sanctioned and they were produced in court.
He said efforts to see Isma arrested are ongoing.
Desire Derickford Mugumisa, the Next Media Head of Brand and Communication, in a statement said the three have been denied their rights to apply for bail over a matter arising from remarks on Sanyuka TV show founded on Omulangira Ssuna’s own declarations and expressions.
Mugumisa said he is optimistic that justice for the three will prevail at the end of it all and the justification will stand.
“We are undertaking all possible measures to have them released as soon as possible,” Mugumisa noted.
