‘Kadongo Kamu’ Artistes Excite Nakaseke in Wealth Creation Challenge

Celebrated musicians that sing the traditional ‘Kadongo Kamu’ music have taken part in a music competition to inspire Ugandans to engage in agriculture. Artistes on Wednesday showcased their compositions in stage performances before hundreds of people in Kapeeka.

The event organized by Operation Wealth Creation that is coordinated by Gen Salim Saleh (Rtd) with an aim to mobilize Ugandans into agricultural production so as to improve household incomes build commodity value chains up to markets infrastructure.

Gen Saleh flanked by Gen Charles Angina, Ministers Kibanzanga and Hajj Nadduli addresses artists and Nakaseke residents

Renowned artistes like Willy Mukabya, Mathias Walukaga, Lord Fred Sebata, Vicent Segawa and Fred Sebbaale entertained the crowd of mostly young people and the elderly. The singers faced off for a Shs 100m cash prize for one with the most inspiring composition.

Walukaga sang of the irrelevance that some of the education courses have turned while Fred Sebaale drew from his personal experience as a farmer of fish, tomatoes and coffee. The audience might have enjoyed a free show but it wasn’t short of lessons and entertainment.

In total, over 20 artistes that fall under the ‘Kadongo Kamu’ music genre performed.

In his remarks as chief guest, Gen Salim Saleh said; “I want to thank my friends in Kadongo Kamu for coming out to participate in this competition and helping us convey the message to the public.”

He expressed happiness that the artistes spread the ‘gospel’ of wealth creation through music.

“I approached the president to tell him that I had discovered people who could spread the gospel effectively and you did not disappoint me,” Gen Saleh said, in reference to the music performances.

The show was attended by among others Minister without Portfolio Hajji Abdul Nadduli, State Minister for Agriculture Christopher Kibanzanga and OWC Deputy Chief Coordinator Lt Gen Charles Angina and representatives of NAADS.

Some farmers including Stephen Sembuya whose Pink Foods Industries makes chocolate from his cocoa farm in Buikwe showcased their products.
