After being named the new head Coach of Uganda’s national football team, The Cranes, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has described Uganda as his “African football home.”

FUFA on Tuesday announced that it had appointed the Serbian in the position on a three year renewable contract effective August 1, 2021.

Micho will be returning in his second stint as Cranes coach after mutually ending his relationship with Zambia this month on a poor run of results.

He has also coached Orlando Pirates in South Africa and Zamalek in Egypt.

In a tweet, Micho says “after exactly 4 years of African football studies on Universities of life and football at Orlando Pirates, Zamalek and Zambia, going back to my African Football home…”

He was first named Cranes coach in February 2013, guiding Uganda to their first Africa Cup of Nations appearance in 2017, a first since 1978.

He also coached Uganda at two African Nations Championships (CHAN) in 2014 and 2016 before stepping down from his role on Saturday, 29 July 2017.

The Serbian trainer abruptly called time on his five-year successful stint in charge of Uganda Cranes at the weekend.

He claimed the decision was forced on him after his employer failed to pay an equivalent of his six month salary.

The Coach has previously publicly expressed his strong sense of belonging to Uganda having lived in the country and manned SC Villa before later bouncing back as the head Coach of the national team in 2013.

In 2017, as he bid farewell to Ugandan football fans, Micho said that despite the fact that his efforts to remain as the Cranes Coach hit a dead end, Uganda had a VVIP room in his heart that will never fade away.

“Uganda has a VVIP room in my heart. You are in my DNA and that will never go away. I’m happy to leave as a minister of happiness for many Ugandans.”

Meanwhile, Micho will be addressing the media next week on Tuesday on his new appointment and plans for the task ahead.
