Tarmacking of the one-kilometre road in Nangako town council, Bududa District has commenced.
Uganda Road Fund provided Shillings 835million for the project being implemented by the Town Council under the supervision of Techno design engineering Ltd.
The project is in fulfilment of extended periodic maintenance and low-cost ceiling of one-kilometre road to improve the network and steer development of Town Councils across the country.

Tom Shibale, the Engineer Nangako Town Council, said that they expect to complete the project within two years. He said that they have received half of the amount expected to complete the work and expect to deliver the first phase of the project this month.

Samali Bugosi, the Town clerk Nangako Town Council, revealed that they have a challenge of sensitizing residents, whose land will be affected by the road works since the project lacks a budget for compensation.

Michael Kanyape, the Mayor of Nangako Town Council has asked residents to embrace the project and allow it to pass through their land, saying it will spur development in the area and beautify the town.

Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi, the Bududa LC V chairperson hailed the people of Nangako for allowing the road to pass through their land and urged the implementers to contract locals to earn some livelihood during the lockdown.

Peter Wataka, a farmer said that once completed, the road will enable them to transport their produce to the market smoothly as opposed to the current situation where they struggle with potholes. Elina Wambewo, another farmer asked the government to tarmac all their roads since they are in bad shape and need improvement.  She said most of the roads in the town are impassable and need urgent rehabilitation.

George William Wopuwa, the Bududa Resident District Commissioner hailed the government for providing funds towards development, saying this is part of the works  of the government in power.

Issa Bukoma, the Bududa District engineer, said the low-cost ceiling helps to cut costs and will save them road maintenance costs. Nangako Town council hosts the weekly Bushika market, one of the largest in Bududa district. It operates on Monday.

However, the market is currently non functional because of the COVID-19 containment measures announced by the government.  URN
