The Chairman of Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), Kayondo Everest who has also been running Ever Based Tours and Travel company has died.
His death has been confirmed by the body’s Chief Executive Officer, Abel Mwesigye.
He says the deceased passed on, on Wednesday afternoon at Lifeline International Hospital in Zana, where he had been admitted for days battling COVID19.
“He died this afternoon at Lifeline International Hospital in Zana. He was admitted on Saturday after testing positive with Covid-19,” Mwesigye said.
Kayondo also been a strong pillar and investor in the tourism business and boasted of over 33 years of experience in the tour and travel business.
In 2018 when he was elected as the board Chairman of the Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO), the deceased promised to lobby government on issues of tour operators, to work closely and maintain the good relationship between AUTO and her partners and to instill discipline among the members.
“We will strengthen the disciplinary procedures of the association in line with the code of conduct, lobby government to regulate the sector and further improve professionalism in the sector,” he noted.
He has also been a renowned advocate of rights of traders in Kampala and Uganda as a whole.
Uganda is striving to contain the second wave of COVID19 infection that has seen surge in cases and number of deaths. Currently, the the country has registered 73,401 positive COVID19 cases with over 722 more cases confirmed on June 22. On the same day, 34 people succumbed to the virus.
