The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah has dismissed media reports that he is critically ill.

The Daily Pepper, a local tabloid, on June 22 claimed that the speaker of the 11th Parliament is sick and that arrangements were in the offing to have him airlifted for specialized treatment abroad.

“Oulanyah critically ill,” the headline the front page headline reads, adding that there is a “scramble to airlift speaker for specialized treatment abroad.”

Speaking to SoftPower News on Tuesday morning, Oulanyah asked Ugandans to treat the story with the contempt it deserves, saying he is neither critically ill nor unwell.

“You are talking to me now. Who is scrambling? Please disregard those false reports,” Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah said in his characteristic vibrant voice on Tuesday.

He said he is currently working from his home just as many other Ugandans in conformity to the stricter measures to stem the spread of COVID19 as announced by Government of the Republic of Uganda on Fiday, June 18.

President Yoweri Museveni announced a countrywide Stay Home Lockdown to limit the spread of the virus.

The measures include a ban on private and public transportation within and across districts, including in the Kampala Metropolitan area.

He also directed for limiting of number of staff at workplaces as one of the measures to curb the spread.

The country has witnessed a spike in the COVID-19 cases since mid-April when the second wave began, registering an average of more than 1000 new cases every day.

Uganda’s cumulative cases are 72,679 and 49,794 recoveries and the country has registered 680 deaths.
