The Police have refuted recent media reports alleging that it clashed with the Internal Security Organization (ISO) agency in an investigation relating to the murder of former Police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

ChimpReports, an online news publication reported last week that a specialized team of police operatives and UPDF soldiers clashed at the residence of an ex-lover of Kaweesi in Lungujja, a Kampala suburb in an attempt to arrest her.

The website further revealed that last month, ISO boss Col Frank Bagyenda Kaka met with Mbabazi at a hotel in Kabuusu and threatened to arrest her after quizing her about her connection to Kaweesi’s death which she denied knowledge of.

Later, according to the article, Col Bagyenda deployed ISO operatives to ensure Mbabazi didn’t leave the home. When police later deployed at the home, ISO could not allow them access.

But Police Spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye on Monday said there was never a standoff between ISO and Police which have shared Intel in numerous investigations.

“We received calls from a lady who identified herself as Christine Mbabazi Muhoza. She called Old Kampala Police station and Natete Police station claiming that armed people had held her hostage and arrested her incommunicado in her home,” Kasingye told journalists.

Kasingye said that on Thursday October 12, police rushed there to investigate circumstances under which Mbabazi was being held hostage but “when our officers got there, armed army officers couldn’t allow them to enter.”

According to the police spokesperson, both teams (Police and army) were later withdrawn and “a neutral force” was deployed. Kasingye declined to divulge details on what the “neutral force” entails.

“We want to put it clearly that Police is not investigating this lady in connection with the murder of Kaweesi. We were just responding to an alarm raised by someone whose life was in danger,” he said.

He further noted that Police is not in charge of the investigation but ISO adding that “we shall wait until other security agencies have finished investigating.” He said that Police is not privy to the details of what Mbabazi is being investigated for.

“We work with ISO on many cases and they provide us with credible Intel in many of these investigations. Therefore there is no clash,”  Kasingye said.

AIGP Felix Kaweesi was brutally gunned down together with his bodyguard and driver on March 17 this year as they drove from his Kulambiro home, outside Kampala suburb. The gunmen made off with his pistol and the escort’s gun.

Many suspects have since been apprehended but the recent incident at Mbabazi’s home is one among the many twists that this case has witnessed ever since.
