Makindye West legislator Allan Ssewanyana has announced he will vote for the spokesperson of the FDC and Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda tomorrow as the 11th parliament holds its first session to select speaker and deputy speaker.
Ssewanyana who rallied colleague MPs to consider Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda for the position says the outgoing Chief Opposition Whip is a generational leader who ought to be supported by all lawmakers who treasure the progress of Uganda.
“Please members I am kindly asking for your support towards our next Speaker, Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda. He will give equal opportunities to us all,” says Allan Ssewanyana.
His party, the National Unity Platform (NUP) has neither fronted a candidate nor has it pronounced itself on supporting any of the candidates from other parties who have shown interest in the position.
On Sunday NRM announced Jacob Oulanyah as the party’s flag bearer. His rival, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga would later declare that she will contest as an independent candidate.
Juliet Kyinyamatama (Independent) and Eng Richard Ssebamala (DP) are the other MPs who earlier expressed interest in the position.
The elections will be held at Kololo independence grounds.
