Kawempe North MP-elect, Mohammed Ssegirinya will miss his scheduled swearing-in ceremony this week as he receives treatment outside the country, his family says.

According to the swearing-in schedule of members of the 11th parliament, Ssegirinya was meant to take oath tomorrow Thursday when the four day ceremony finally ends.

His brother, a one Kasagga, has told this news website that Ssegirinya remains unwell and he will not be sworn-in as scheduled.

Ssegirinya who defeated nine candidates in the January 14 general elections including incumbent Latif Ssebagala to reclaim the Kawempe North MP seat, was rushed to Nairobi for further treatment in April after he complained of ear and abdominal complications following his release from Kitalya Prison.

The youthful elected lawmaker was first admitted at the Doctor’s hospital in Sseguku.

He would later in Nairobi release a video clip in which he said he had been diagnosed with liver complications.

“According to doctors, I sustained wounds on my liver and possibly I may need a liver transplant. My health condition isn’t good at all and I hope to take a lengthy period on the sidelines while attaining specialised medical attention. Pray for me,” Ssegirinya said.

Posts on his social media platforms show that he has since been transferred to a hospital of ‘international standards’ for further management where he currently remains.

Kasagga says they have since communicated to parliament about his condition and was rescheduled to take oath in June.

“Ssegirinya is still unwell. He will swear-in on June 25,” Kasagga says.

Members of Parliament elect who don’t show up during the general swearing-in ceremony for reasons communicated to the clerk of Parliament prior, can be rescheduled for the same when they are ready.

The second day of the swearing-in ceremony (Tuesday) saw 134 MPs take their oaths of parliament and allegiance effectively meaning that of the 529 legislators in the 11th parliament, a total of 265 MPs had by Tuesday evening been sworn-in since the start of the exercise on Monday morning.
