The new legislators organized in alphabetical order of their names will be sworn-in from Monday May 17 to Thursday May 20. A schedule issued by the Clerk to Parliament, shows that the ceremony will be held from 8am to 6:30pm every day.

The about 130 legislators who will be sworn-in tomorrow are those whose names range from Ababiku Jesca and Asiimwe Florence Akiiki in the alphabetical order. These will swear-in from 8am to 1:30pm before their colleagues whose names fall between Asiimwe Molly and Chelain Betty who are scheduled to swear-in in the afternoon from 2pm to 6:30pm.

Last week MPs picked their invitation and biodata forms and were expected to return the former by Friday or on the day of swearing-in.

According to the clerk to parliament, the SOPs on COVID19 will strictly be observed during the swearing-in ceremony, with MPs elect allowed to be accompanied by only three people.

Meanwhile, police also issued traffic guidelines to be followed during the four day event where the MPs elect were asked to use only one vehicle to parliament.

The guidelines issued by SSP Musinga Norman, the KMP commander, indicate that there will be a traffic diversion in areas surrounding parliament where Parliamentary Avenue will be cut off at Kimathi Avenue, King George VI street, Siadi Barrie and UBC round about.

The legislators will access parliament via King George VI Street and be dropped off at the main gate after which the motor vehicles will proceed to the designated parking at National Theatre.

“After swearing-in, they (MPs) will proceed to parking via the Eastern Gate of parliament opposite National Theatre and exit through Dewinton Road,” says SSP Musinga.

Police has also prohibited parking along the road or near parliament and that any abandoned vehicle on the road will be towed to the Central Police Station at owner’s cost and inconvenience.
