Police on Thursday night arrested Mityana Municipality member of parliament, Francis Zaake over jumping police bond, and the legislator is to be taken to Arua and Gulu Court.
The legislator is currently detained at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala and according the Police Criminal Investigations Director, Grace Akullo, his arrest followed jumping a police bond which was granted to him last year, after being charged with treason and unlawful escape from police custody.
“We have arrested Zaake. He jumped police bond all this time. We are taking him to Arua Court, then Gulu (court),” Akullo said.
He is among the five MPs who were arrested and allegedly tortured by security operatives upon their arrest on the last day of campaigns in the Arua municipality by-election in August last year.
Security said then that he escaped from Police custody and went to Lubaga hospital in Kampala where where he was admitted. It was later reported that he could neither sit nor walk, before being cleared to fly to India for specialised medical treatment.
Zaake together with over 30 other people including MPs; Bobi Wine, Paul Mwiru, Gerald Karuhanga and Kassiano Wadri, face charges of treason.
The State accuses them of pelting stones at the motorcade of President Yoweri Museveni in Arua on August 13 during an election campaign.
