The Deputy Attorney General, Mwesigwa Rukutana has vowed never to apologise for behaving in what Justice Catherine Bamugemereire termed as a disrespectful manner before the land probe committee on Wednesday.
While appearing before the probe committee on Wednesday, Rukutana had a bitter exchange with Justice Catherine Bamugemereire, the chairperson.
Rukutana was appearing to give explanation on why government intends to compensate billions of Shillings to a one Dr. Muhammad Kasasa for a land transaction considered by probe committee to have been done fraudulently.
Kasasa claims that he sold his four plots of land to the External Security Organisation (ESO) but he has never been paid.
In the middle of the interview, Bamugemereire interjected saying Rukutana was responding to questions in a way that she perceived as disrespectful hence ordering him to respond with the right decorum.
However, Rukutana noted that he was not at liberty to treat the members of the commission with docurum yet the commission was never treating him in such a manner.
An angered Justice Bamugemereire would then dismiss the Deputy Attorney General stating that the Commission would ask President Yoweri Museveni to find another organ that Rukutana would perhaps treat with respect.
On Thursday, Rukutana noted that the issue between him and Justice Bamugemereire dates back to the past and that it is not yet to end.
“I want to assure you that whatever I said was intentional and had a historic perspective that I will not share here,” Rukutana said.
He added that: “All I assure you is that I am not apologizing to you or anybody. It’s your prerogative to interpret the incident the way you want but personally, I am so happy and satisfied. My only regret is that I never exhausted myself!!”
