He says fire brigade was alerted and reached the scene on time and put off the fire.

“There was a fire at the said school which has been extinguished by fire brigade. A lot of property from the boys’ dormitory has been lost,” Owoyesigyire said.

The destroyed property include books, cases, beds, cups, basins and mattresses.

He however says no injuries or deaths have been registered.

He reiterated that details regarding the cause of the fire are subject to investigations.

The Police mouthpiece further called for vigilance on the side of school authorities at all times, to minimise effects such fires.

“Schools should at all time be vigilant and also train students on how to react whenever there are fires, put fire emergency centres,” he said before adding that schools should ensure that they are fire proof.

In November last year, ten students died after a fire broke out at St Bernard Secondary School, Manya in Rakai District.

The fire burnt a dormitory that was housing at least 50 senior three students.
