The opposition Democratic Party (DP) President, Norbert Mao has expressed dismay with the level of incivility that was portrayed by the former Vice President, Specioza Wandira during the funeral of the former Bishop of Busoga Diocese, Cyprian Bamwoze in Jinja.

During the funeral over the weekend, the Former Vice President snubbed a handshake with Kyadondo East Member of Parliament (MP), Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine who had offered to greet her.

When Specioza got a chance to address the mourners, she attacked Bobi Wine for having come to attend a burial of someone he didn’t know. She said the singer and opposition politician had not been invited.

“Why have you come to attend the burial of someone you don’t know?” Specioza asked in Lusoga suggesting that Bobi Wine turned up uninvited.

But her statements prompted booing from the mourners.

On Tuesday, DP President, Mao, condemned Specioza’s conduct noting however that he was not surprised that it came from her given her background as a national leader.

“There is what we call bad politics but this was purely bad manners. I am glad that the Speaker of Parliament was not happy about how a member of the highest legislative organ of the country was treated,” Mao said.

Mao said that refusing to shake Kyagulanyi’s hands would be understood if it happened among kindergarten pupils. At the national level, Mao said, the behavior of leaders should be more cordial and defined by decorum.

“This is a former Vice President who is majorly remembered for failing to build valley dams in Karamoja by diverting resources and most of the times she was talking about sex comparing circumcised men and those uncircumcised,” Mao said.

He added, “I am just saying I wasn’t surprised, if you know her well, it was expected but it was a shame. I think at a certain level of politics, we should be more civil to one another.”

Mao as well commended the Kingdom of Busoga for having come out to apologize to the mourners, the family of the late Bamwoze and to Kyagulanyi.
