This year’s Uganda Evaluation Week opened on Monday in Kampala and will bring together policy makers, government officials, civil society, academia, development partners and private sector, to share evaluation experiences.

The evaluation week is an international platform organized locally by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and it is being held at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

According to a statement from the OPM, the theme for this year’s Evaluation Week is ‘From evidence generation to utilization’ and it will attract participants from African countries and evaluation networks from around the world.

“We envisage that at this stage, this year’s evaluation Week events move a stride in creating an enabling environment for participants to utilise the acquired knowledge and enhance public programmes and projects’ implementation efficiency and effectiveness in their respective governments,” adds the statement.

Uganda has been holding the event since 2012.

While addressing the press on Tuesday, the Minister in Charge of General Duties, Mary Karoro Okurut said government will use the week to monitor and evaluate the quality of services provided by each sector of government.

Meanwhile, the event started with the Pre-conference workshop on Monday and Tuesday which will be followed by a two-day conference.

Government says the new innovations in the evaluation are gradually creating a good atmosphere for the evaluation of the several public policies and programs.

Over the last five years, close to 20 policies and programs have undergone evaluation processes ranging from process design to impact evaluation.

During and at the end of every evaluation, the results and best practices are periodically shared with policy makers, counterpart experts and other evaluation networks at local and International level.
