MTN Uganda chief executive, Wim Vanhelleputte has been summoned by Police to explain the alleged involvement of two Senior Managers of the telecom company, in actions considered subversive to Uganda.
A source told SoftPower News on Tuesday that Wim was summoned to appear at the Police Special Investigations Unit in Kireka, to aid investigations.
Another Senior official of MTN Uganda, Anthony Katamba, the General Manager of Corporate Services has also been summoned to write a statement in relation with the the two employees accused of engaging in activities that compromised Uganda’s national security. Katamba doubles at MTN’s chief legal counsel.

Police Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) has also summoned MTN Uganda General Manager in charge of Mobile Financial Services Elsa Muzzolin to appear and answer for cases related to the use of mobile money to incite violence.
This is according to a letter Ref. No. CID/A 131/151 dated January 22nd which SoftPower News has seen.
According to the letter, Ms. Muzzolin is being investigated for alleged incitement of violence contrary to section 51 and 83 of the Uganda Penal Code Act.
It follows the arrest and deportation of two foreign nationals both Senior staff of the telecom giant on Monday. The two are Olivier Prentout (French) who was Chief Marketing Officer and Annie Tabura, a Rwandan national, who has been MTN’s General Manager for Sales and Distribution.
A statement by Police on Tuesday said the two were working “with a leading mobile telecom company” but did not disclose which one.
“Security agencies in close coordination with immigration officials have been investigating two foreign nationals working with a leading mobile telecom company over their engagement in acts which compromise national security.” ACP Polly Namaye, the deputy Police spokesperson said in a statement.
Police said that Tabura and Prentout were using their employment “as tools to achieve their ill motives” and have been deported.
Security agencies are yet to reveal details regarding the said actions of the two.
