Government has approved the Principles for the Mining and Minerals Bill, 2019 during the Cabinent sitting held on Monday January 14 at State House Entebbe.
In a statement read to the media on Tuesday, the Deputy Government Spokesperson, Col. Shaban Bantariza noted that the Bill among other objectives aims at strengthening the Legal and Regulatory Framework for the licensing and development of the mineral sector.
Bantariza said that the policy will as well ensure efficient, equitable, accountable and transparent management of Mineral revenues.
“The policy will establish, manage and promote the Country’s Mineral potential as well as enhancing and strengthen Institutional capacity for effective governance of the Mineral Sector,” Bantariza told reporters.
He said that the policy will help to organize and legislate artisanal and small scale mining in Uganda.
“The policy is to promote and protect Health, Safety and Environment in the Mineral Industry; as well as providing a framework for marketing and value addition of Minerals,” Bantariza noted.
He added that the policy will promote local content and national participation in the mineral industry.
