After defeating Bright Stars 2-1 and a goalless draw against Onduparaka FC in their last StarTimes Uganda Premier League games at home, Mbarara City continued to display a wonderful performance on Wednesday, when they beat Kirinya Jinja SS 3-0 at Kakyeka stadium.

City Lions came in the game without two of their superb players, goalkeeper Ali Kimera and striker Ndugwa Kariim who were both suspended during their encounter against Onduparaka at green light stadium in Arua, but this didn’t stop them registering a convincing defeat.

Two goals from South Sudanese International Maqueth Wol and ‘danger man’ Paul Mucurezi respectively, were enough to end the first stanza with the Lions in the driving seat.

For the good part of the second half, the Jinja based outfit tried hard to penetrate into the solid defence of the hosts, but all in vain as all their ‘killer’ missions were successfully contained.

In the 78th minute, winger Jude Ssemugabi couldn’t settle without putting his name on the scoreboard, when he tapped the third.

From the 14 games played so far, City has won 8, won and lost 3 and have a game in hand. They now move from the fourth position to the third on the league log with 27 points just 2 points behind Vipers.

Speaking after the game, Kirinya’s head Coach, Charles Ayieko stemmed the poor performance on a number of his injured players. He however credited the hosts for putting up a great game.

“I had a lot of injuries and some of my players went for a foreign mission with Hippos team. However, Mbarara got their day and to me, they were generally, the better team,” he said

City’s assistant Coach, Richard Kasule, Said that their win is a boost to their team in preparation for their last first round game of the tournament against Kitende based Vipers SC who Tuesday thumbed Onduparaka FC 3-0 on Tuesday.
