Police’s Band Director, Josephine Kakooza Dies at Age 64

Commissioner of Police (CP) Josephine Kakooza who has been serving as the Director for the Police brass band has died at the age of 64. Her death was confirmed by Police on Wednesday morning.

Police said on Twitter that Kakooza, “one of the longest serving Police officer and Commissioner” breathed her last at Namirembe hospital on Wednesday morning.

“The Veteran Police band Commissioner of Police breathed her last this morning at 3:00 am due to pressure while she had visited her home in Mukono. RIP comrade. May her soul rest in eternal peace and may God strengthen her family and the entire Uganda Police fraternity,” the Chief Political Commissar for Police, AIGP Asan Kasingye wrote on social media.

Kakooza’s career as a police officer spans five decades. She is said to have joined Uganda Police back in 1969 at the age of 14.

She was born in Masaka to Joseph Kakooza, a former Buganda County chief, and Theodora Namutebi.

After training at Kibuli Police Training School for two years, Kakooza was deployed in the Police band under the Police music department.

Eight years ago, she became the first woman Director of music in the police force.
