The Department of Disaster Preparedness is warning the public to take precaution following heavy storms that broke trees and brought electric wires down in parts of Kampala on Friday evening.

A notice from the Department of Disaster Preparedness under the Office of the Prime Minister is advising the public to be on the lookout.

“Massive storm has broken and dropped electricity wires on several roads around Kampala today evening. Take extra care . Be on the look-out,” said Martin Owor, the Commissioner for Disaster Preparedness in a notice.

The notice added that winds had broken trees which then blocked a number of roads.

“Do not cross flooded areas. Wait at safe location as Authorities normalize the situation. Be extra alert,” the notice further reads.

Meanwhile some parts of Kampala experienced power outages as a result of the impact of the strong winds.

Power distributor, Umeme, said due to the heavy rains, there have been multiple faults along the powerlines around Kampala.

Users in Nankulabye, Nansana, Entebbe, Muyenga, Bweyogerere, Kisasi, Gayaza, Namugongo among other parts said they were affected by the blackout.

“We are working to ensure that we resolve and have safe power restored at the earliest,” Umeme said, adding that partial restoration was ongoing.
