Police Issues Traffic Guidelines Ahead of Groudbreaking for Kampala Flyover Project

Ahead of the New Year’s Eve celebrations, Police has issued traffic guidelines for motorists that intend to use routes within the Kampala city centre.

The guidelines seek to ensure smooth flow of traffic and limited congestion, Police said in a statement issued by the Traffic Commander for Kampala Metropolitan Police, SSP Norman Musinga.

According to the guidelines, motorists will not be allowed to park along Nile Avenue, Speke Road, Ternan Avenue, Sezibwa Road, Kintu Road, UBC round about and High Court round about.

“Any motor vehicle abandoned around these places will be towed to IOV Naguru at the owners risk and expense,” the statement read in part.

Police say there will be cut off points at Lumumba Avenue, Ternan Avenue (at High Court round about), Nile Avenue (at Grand Inperial round about), Square Road as well as Kintu – Sezibwa junction.

Motorists driving to Sheraton Hotel will be required to have a sticker and will access the hotel theouth Ternan Avenue.

Access has also been restricted at Kololo ceremonial grounds, Namboole stadium and Lubiri.

SSP Musinga warned motorists against getting over excited during the celebrations but to rather follow the traffic laws to avoid inconveniences. He also advised the public to use public transport so as to reduce traffic congestion in the city.

Police has also cautioned against burning of tyres in roads as a way of celebration, saying that this will disrupt the flow of traffic.

Some of the areas expected to attracts hordes of people on New Year’s Eve include Sheraton Hotel, Serena Hotel, Pearl of Africa Hotel, Christ the King Church, Bat Valley, Lubiri, Munyonyo, Kololo ceremonial grounds, Bukalango as well as All Saints Cathedral Nakasero among others.
