Police has Saturday dismissed claims that they issued tough conditions to the organisers of Bugiri Municipality, MP Asuman Basalirwa’s victory party scheduled for Saturday, as a prerequisite for Kyadondo East lawmaker, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine to attend the event.

The spokesperson of Justice Forum (JEEMA), Abudunoor Kyamundu, on Saturday morning told this website that Bugiri DPC SP Ssebuyungo Jeff had told them that the party will only take place on condition that procession to and from the venue are not done.

Yesterday, Basalirwa told SoftPower News that Police had blocked the party because he had earlier organised it in an open area, but also because Police suspected that Bobi Wine was to attend.

He also wondered where the Police got information that Wine, a musician turned politician was to attend.

However, Kyamundu said that Police had since changed their decision and said that if he attends, then he shouldn’t sing his trademark song ‘Kyarenga’ as well as other political songs.

When contacted, SP Ssebuyungo, denied any knowledge of the invited guests for party, saying that his only duty is to ensure security.

“Am already at the event for security and so far so good. The party is going on well. Why should I bother about the list of his guests?” asked Ssebuyungo.

Police blocked several concerts organised by Bobi Wine in last couple of weeks and also stopped him from performing on some concerts he is invited.

It is still unclear whether Bobi Wine, who led Basalirwa’s campaign team in July to defeat NRM’s Francis Oketcho and FDC’s Eunice Namatende in the Municipality MP race will grace the party.

The Second Deputy Prime Minister, Kirunda Kivejinja is expected to preside over the event.
