Initially, the Presidents had designated November 30 to hold the meeting, but only three of them – Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Uhuru Kenyatta (Kenya) and John Pombe Magufuli (Tanzania) attended.

Uganda’a President Museveni, the current chairman of the East Africa Community announced on November 30 that the EAC summit of the EAC heads of state had been postponed due to the absence of Burundi.

“One of our members, Burundi did not come. We have pushed the summit to 27th December to enable all members to attend. EAC provides for one meeting a year, this one in November that has been postponed,” President Museveni said in a statement.

He said the date for the meeting had been changed to December 27.

A statement posted on the official EAC Facebook page says that the December 27 meeting has been postponed.

“The 20th Ordinary Meeting of the Summit of the East African Community Heads of State which was scheduled to take place on Thursday December 27 has again been postponed,” the statement read in part.

“The Chair of the EAC Heads of State Summit is consulting with his fellow Heads of State on the exact date and the Secretariat will communicate in due course,” the statement added.
