The Rotary Club of Kampala on Monday donated two vehicles to Mengo Hospital to facilitate in blood mobilization activities in the country.
The donation is also in addition to construction and equipping Mengo Hospital Rotary blood bank with supplies.
The vans were officially handed over by Rotarian Emmanuel Katongole and reveirec by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministery of Health, Dr Diana Atwine. Dr Atwine applauded Rotary Club for the support and pledged to avail more staff to the hospital.
“We pledge to support this blood bank to be able to process blood and increase supply to save more lives. We thank Rotary for this great contribution,” she noted.
“We also pledge support to the blood bank with staff once Mengo Hospital Management comes up with a proper structure,” Dr Atwine added.
The Blood Bank which is currently acting as a blood collection centre has only eight staff to support its operations.
In the beginning of this year, the country was hit by blood shortage which prompted the Ministry of Health to launch a six-day countrywide blood collection drive.
