Last year, he was hospitalized at Nakasero hospital with diabetes and hypertension.

Rurangaranga was an MP in the 1960s and fought under Kikosi Maalum, a militia of Ugandan exiles who fought Idi Amin dictatorship.

He also served as minister for state for Local government in the Milton Obote government.

Jimmy Akena, the UPC president, described the late as a loyal nationalist who epitomized unwavering dedication and commitment in serving both his country and party.

Okello Lucima, the Olara Otunnu-led UPC spokesperson, described the deceased as a liberator and statesman.

Forum for Democratic Change party president Kizza Besigye also extended his condolences to the family, friends and relatives of the late.

“Saddened to learn of the demise of the former minister and UPC chairperson Maj. Edward Rurangaranga. May the elder statesman Rest In Peace,” Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, tweeted
