Kwese Free sports TV commentator, Patrick Kanyomozi, has been elected the new President of the sports journalists’ body, Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) beating Ritah Aliguma and NTV’s Sam Mpoza to the position.
In the election held at Cooper Chimney, Lugogo on Saturday afternoon, Kanyomozi who has also been the USPA Secretary General garnered 64 votes. The outgoing Vice President, Ritah Aliguma got 36 votes while NTV’s Sam Mpoza came last with 16 votes.
Speaking after being declared winner, Kanyomozi, who now replaces Sabbit Muwanga thanked sports journalists for entrusting him with the top seat of the body and called for unity and dissolution of different camps.
“The election period is done and we are now all under one house. We call upon everyone to unite and work for the betterment of the association,” he said.
Kanyomozi also thanked his two competitors for exhibiting maturity during the campaigning period.
On their part Ritah Aliguma and Sam Mpoza conceded defagd in a free and fair election and pledged their support to the new leadership.
Others who have been elected include Mubarak Kasule (Treasurer) as well as Francisco Bwambale and Johnson Were who both went through unopposed as Organising Secretary and General Secretary respectively.
USPA constitution provides that the new elected President appoints the rest of the executive committee members in the next 30 days, who together with him/her sserve for two years.
