The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has called upon its members in Busia district that picked nomination forms for LC5 primaries to get ready for nominations.
This was announced during the release of party primaries road map for the said seat that fell vacant after Court nullied the election of the Busia district Chairperson.
Addressing the media on Monday, the Deputy NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, John Arimpa Kigyagi said that the party shall move to hold primaries after the flag holder, Steven Wanyama wrote to the party saying he had lost interest in the contest.
“Expression of interest and picking of nomination forms started on Friday 19th and ended on Saturday 20th October 2018, while nominations are today Monday 22 October ending at 5:00pm,” Kigyagi said.
Kigyagi said that thereafter, a joint candidates’ meeting shall commence on Thursday 25th October and shall run up to 31st October, 2018. Polling will be on 2nd November, 2018.
“For avoidance of doubt, aspiring candidates must meet a number of requirements which among others include being a Ugandan, aged 18 years and above, a member of NRM, a resident of the area with certified ‘O’ and ‘A’ level certificate or their equivalent.
“A candidate must not be a member of the armed forces, must be a registered voter by National EC, must not be a cultural leader and must pay a non-refundable Expression of Interest fee of Sh1m to the Accounts office.”
According to the National Electoral Commission road map, there shall be a display of the voters register for 10 days beginning Monday 5th to Wednesday 14th November.
Nomination of candidates shall be held from 6th to 7th November whole campaigns shall run for 18 days from 9th to 26th November .
The District shall then go to polls on 27th November (for Councillors) and 28th November, 2018 (for LC5 Chairperson).
