Museveni Commissions Water Scheme to Serve 40,000 People in Kiruhura

President Yoweri Museveni has Sunday commissioned the Kashongi water mains extension in Kirihura district.

The 12 kilometre long water mains extension from Rubindi town to Kashongi will serve 7 villages including Ruhuumba, Kachwapare, Nchune, Kashongi, Ntara and the surrounding areas.

It consists of 30 public water points which will serve various villages in the district. In total, over 40,000 people in Kiruhura district will have access to safe water from this project.

Some of other areas to benefit from the project include Kyenshama Trading Center and the surrounding areas in Kashongi county, Kiruhura district.

In his remarks, President Museveni urged the residents to protect River Rwizi jealously and other water bodies that support the livelihoods of the people of Uganda.

He congratulated the people of Kashongi upon having the area elevated to a county which he said will bring government services closer.

Regarding infrastructure, the President promised that government will extend electricity to Kashongi County and also work on most crucial roads in the constituency.

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Managing Director, Dr Eng Silver Mugisha said that the corporation is implementing a number of service delivery projects to improve access to safe clean water and sewerage services across the country.
