Uganda’s former Attorney General, Peter Nyombi has died. Nyombi is said to have passed away on Sunday at a hospital in the capital Kampala.
The former lawyer and politician died at the age of 64. Nyombi had hypertension and succumbed to heart failure.
He was the government Attorney General since 2011 for a period of four years having succeeded Kiddu Makubuya. As a politician, Nyombi represented Buruuli county in Nakasongola district in Parliament.
Other positions he occupied previously were State Attorney in the Ministry of Justice’s department of public prosecution, as well as lawyer in the Inspectorate of Government and later Director of Legal Affairs.
Peter Nyombi was born in Nakasongola district, on 23 April 1954, to Eriakimu Kajja, a school teacher and Mrs. Kajja, a full-time housewife.
He had twelve siblings, one of them being Prof John Musisi Senyonyi, the Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University (UCU).
Nyombi attended Nakasongola Primary School. He then studied at Kings College Buddo for his O-Level and A-Level education. In 1973, he was admitted to Makerere University where he graduated in 1976 with a Law Degree.
