After months of dance battles across the region and units in an event that climaxed at the B-boy dance city in Uganda, Bbosa Reneus, an electrical engineering student at YMCA comprehensive institute in Wandegeya is set to represent Uganda in Taipei, Taiwan.

“B-boy Bbosa, from Uganda, has finally stood out of the good hands to get a chance to go to the Taipei B-boy city world final in December,” said the panel of judges including Tekya Abramz of Rocksteady Crew, Bojin of BBoyworld Asia and Boaz of HRC BBOy.

The heated dance battles serve to showcase their talent and dance power but one can only wait to see what the battle of the champions will offer come December.

“I am very ready for the battle in Taipei because it’s not the first time I am into such big contest. The judges saw potential and so I will do or die for my country Uganda,” said Bbosa.

The victory is perhaps not surprising for, Bbosa who emerged as the overall winner of the 2017 Breakfast Jam, an annual breakdance event nurturing and promoting the breaking and hiphop dance scene in East Africa.

In the same year, he proceeded to represent in the B-boy Steady Jam contest in Nigeria where he emerged winner. He was also crowned the king of the Skills East Africa dance fest.

Winning the 2018 Taipei B-boy City, an international B-boy dance competition that originated in Taiwan comes with more than just dance opportunity for Bbosa. For him, on top of the challenge, he can not wait for the tour, travel and adventure that comes with his trip to Asia.

According to Kaweesi Mark, a Ugandan social artist who also doubles as a trainer, it is the first time in so many African countries to come together with Bboys battles.

Mark noted that B-Boy Taipei has a record for curating some of the best world battles, therefore choosing Uganda as a partner in this cause is a plus to the numerous talents being nurtured every day.

For Mark, as the contest heads to other African countries like South Africa, Kenya, Egypt among others, is an indicator that the bboy environment in Africa is definitely making a stride into the creative arts market.

Kamingu George, one of the dancers who interacted with SoftPower News during a dance training session at sharing Youth centre this week said it was an amazing round going up against Bboy Bossa the eventual winner of the Uganda B-boy City battle.

Breakdancing, also called breaking or b-boying (or b-girling), is an athletic style of street dance. While diverse in the amount of variation available in the dance, breakdancing mainly consists of four kinds of movement: toprock, downrock, power moves and freezes.

The dance is typically set to hip-hop, funk, and breakbeat music, although modern trends allow for much wider varieties of music along certain ranges of tempo and beat patterns.
