Butambala County Member of Parliament (MP), Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi has challenged the Police Force to clear the media allegations that cited some MPs and other civilians as being beneficiaries of the Police fuel.

Quoting an article in one of the local dailies published in June this year, Kivumbi whose name was mentioned among the beneficiaries is furious about these allegations noting that these don’t only tarnish his integrity but also leaves in question the reputation of the Police.

Kivumbi made the call as the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola and Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Kania Obiga appeared before the defence committee to respond to a number of queries in regard to security situation in the country.

Kivumbi submitted that until police clarified on the matter he raised, he felt uncomfortable sitting in the meeting.

Kivumbi dared Police to prove that he indeed consumed Police fuel and that should this happen, he would be willing to resign his position as the Shadow Minister for Internal Affairs and his seat as Butambala County MP.

“Unless Police withdraws that statement or confirms it, I would not even be fit to sit in this meeting. These issues raised much concern. Now that police is here and they made the allegations, they should then affirm,” Kivumbi said.

In response, the Minister Mania Obiga said that there was no basis for responding to mere allegations as there was no formal communication from Police that was issued to the public in line with the matter discussed.

“I find it extremely difficult to respond to that matter in which the member collectly said that these were allegations in the papers which haven’t been investigated and no report to that effect,” Obiga said.

Obiga added, “The Police can neither deny nor confirm anything because there is nothing on the table.”

The Chairperson of the Defense committee, Doreen Amule ruled that the matter will be traced and investigations will take course.
