Police have refuted allegations raised by former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Winnie Kiiza that some armed people intend to kill her husband, Yokasi Bihande.

On Sunday, Winnie Kiiza revealed that her upcountry home in Kasese was surrounded by armed people whom she said were waylaying her husband to shoot him.

“As I am posting this message, again, nine armed men in military uniform have surrounded our house again in Kiburara, Kasese. All of them armed to the teeth with machine guns and RPGs (Rocket Propelled Grenades),” Kiiza wrote on her Facebook on Sunday night.

She stated that on Friday, “two armed men spent the night in my compound in Kasese, waiting for my husband to come home and they shoot him”.

But a friend had tipped them and he (husband) did not go home that night.

Now, Police spokesperson, SSP Emilian Kayima has now responded questioning the authenticity in the legislator’s claims.

“The Uganda Police Force received allegations of armed people in the home of Mr. Bihande, husband to Hon. Winnie Kiiza, former LoP. This was Friday September 21, 2018,” Kayima said in a statement on Monday.

He said that upon receiving the allegations, the Regional Police Command for Rwenzori East quickly responded and visited the home.

According to Kayima, Police again visited the home in question on Sunday following the alarm raised by Kiiza but there was no military present there.

“Again, the police rushed there and found no military presence there. There was no one home. The Regional police headquarters called Mr. Bihande and he declined to speak to the police,” Police said.

“This left police doubting the authenticity of the allegations”.

Police says that on interaction with some domestic workers and neighbors about these same allegations, they denied knowledge of any military presence.

As a result, Police in Rwenzori East have opened a General Enquiry File (GEF) to investigate the allegations.

Kayima appealed to leaders to cooperate with security agencies at all times, in order to solve matters that bring about insecurity.
