President Yoweri Museveni has while commenting on the murder of former Buyende DPC, ASP Muhammad Kirumira said that for government to deal with the criminality, it will not rely on the old police methods.
Museveni said that the criminals responsible for urban crime are still exploiting the gaps he identified in a speech to Parliament. But he said that the gaps are being addressed by Police, including the ongoing installation of CCTV cameras.
“The criminals are still using the gaps I identified in my speech to Parliament…. The Police Force are working hard to fill the gaps. They have started installing the cameras and other measures are being put in place,” Museveni said in a short statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday.
Like in his previous statements, Museveni again pointed out the need to streamline the boda boda industry especially given that in most of such assassinations, assailants use boda bodas as escape means.
“The electronic identification of Boda bodas would have helped us to identify these people quickly,” the President said.
He however lauded some of the residents whom he said chased the killers of Kirumira.
“Pending the installing of cameras etc everywhere, we are going to re-activate the Luweero methods to deal with these cowardly pigs,” the President said.
The President says that following Saturday’s incident, the sub-committee of security convened a meeting at 10am on Sunday which he chaired.
“We are to stop these pigs by not just relying on the old police methods”.
The President visited the scene of crime on Sunday at 11pm.
