Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament (MP), Rose Kabagyenyi has expressed concern over the constant power outages in the district which she says have resulted into the deaths of three expectant mothers in Kisoro hospital.
Raising a matter of national importance before Parliament presided over by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah, Kabagyenyi said that intermittent power supply coupled with water shortage have frustrated service delivery at the facility.
“In Kisoro, we have not had electricity for the last two months, UMEME and other agencies have come on board and told us that they were renovating power lines,” Kabegyenyi said.
“This, they told us will only last for 15 days but it has now gone to two months. I have raised this matter because last week, we lost three months and three prematures just because of inadequate electricity in the theatres.”
In response, the Minister of State for Finance in charge of Planning, David Bahati said that the Ministry of Energy has already been informed about the matter and is working around the clock to restore the power supply.
“Mr. Speaker, government was informed about the issue this morning and the Ministry of Energy has already got in touch with UMEME to have the issue sorted out this evening or latest tomorrow morning,” Bahati said.
