The Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has revealed that government has received concerns over the upcoming MTN Nyege Nyege festival and is currently holding investigations over the concerns.

This followed a matter of National importance raised by the former Minister of Ethics and Integrity, James Nsaba Butuuro who noted that the upcoming festival compromises national integrity.

Buturo said that he has received information that the festival is intended to be used by homosexuals to practice and promote homosexuality that is contrary to the laws of the land.

The senior legislator told members that further reports indicate that Nyege Nyege had lined up over 4,000 homosexuals to celebrate the four-day festive camp.

“It is also reported that a lot of unspeakable, despicable and detestable practices such as sex, men having sex with men, women having sex with women, sex with animals and all that will be on the show on the Ugandan soil,” Butuuro said.

“This moral evasion is one we shouldn’t take lightly simply because it has ramifications on our security, stability, unity and prosperity. And much of the unrest we see today has its roots on the external evasion that we are witnessing.”

In his response, Rugunda noted that indeed government had received reports of the Nyege Nyege festival being shrouded with homosexuality noting however that investigations are underway over the matters.

Earlier on Tuesday, a letter authored by Minister for Ethics and Integrity, Fr Simon Lokodo to the Minister for Internal Affairs emerged, in which he (Lokodo) sought for the Thursday festival to be cancelled.
