Uganda Cranes defender, Godfrey Walusimbi has completed a move to South African top flight side, Kaizer Chiefs from Kenyan Premier League champions, Gor Mahia FC.

The 29-year-old penned a three-year deal which will end on June 30, 2021 and he is the second Ugandan to play at Chiefs after striker David Obua commonly known as King David by many Chiefs’ fans in South Africa.

Speaking after being unveiled to fans on Thursday, Walusimbi alias Jjajja Walu, described Chiefs as a great club and that playing there is an opportunity for him to explore his potential.

“I have always known that Kaizer Chiefs is a great football club which plays for honours, and that’s a positive mindset that every player dreams of,” Walusimbi said.

“Just like every footballer, I always want to move one step further in my career and I think my move to Chiefs is one such step,” he added.

On when to adapt to the system at the new club, Walusimbi said that he was already coping up.

“I have already adapted at Chiefs. It is easier to adapt in a professional environment and I look forward to working hard and contribute to the team,” he said.

Walusimbi is a fully-fledged Cranes player and has already received a call up from Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) for the upcoming 2019 AFCON qualifier game against Tanzania on September 8.

He has played for several clubs including Sports Club Villa in Uganda and CS Don Bosco of DR Congo.

Walusimbi, 29, will be don in Jersey number 29 and joins Cranes Captain Denis Onyango in South Africa, who plays for Mamelodi Sundowns.
