KABALE – David Bahati, the State Minister for Planning and Economic Development has asked the newly elected Local Council (LC) leaders in Uganda to ensure unity in their villages if development is to occur.

Bahati said that it is uncalled for, for those who won in the recently conducted LC 1 elections to start revenging against those who did not support them.

“Do not even think about organising celebrations before people you defeated politically because that will show that you do not care about promoting togetherness,” said Bahati.

The Minister was on Saturday addressing NRM delegates from Kitumba Sub-County in Kabale district at St. Catherine Kitumba Catholic Church.

Bahati asked all NRM members to ensure the promotion of nationalism in whatever they undertake.

“When you are united and not divided against any social lines, the love for this country is increased and realised by everyone,” he said.

Bahati added that for Uganda to develop, there is a need for leaders at all levels to be exemplary.

“We should be the ones exercising whatever we would wish to see our people doing. I own a tea plantation around because we are trying to promote the growth of tea in this region. There is no way I can convince people to embrace tea farming when I do not do it,” said Bahati.

Speaking at the same function, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kabale, Dennis Nzeirwe asked Local Council leaders to be security vigilant so as to avoid security challenges in their areas.

“Watch out for people who come to your areas because some of them are security threats. This is the only way we can be assured of complete safety in our country,” he said.

Nzeirwe said that they are willing to support any leader who is ready to work with government in development.
