Minister for Privatization and Investment, Evelyn Anite has taken a three week’s leave to concentrate on pursuing her Masters Degree in the U.S.

In a letter obtained by this website, Minister Anite sought permission from President Yoweri Museveni to travel to U.S. where she is pursuing a Global Masters of Arts programme in International Relations and Diplomacy at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.

She will be attending Tufts University in the United States of America.

“The purpose of this letter is to inform you and ask for your permission to take my annual leave, to be able to attend class for my Masters degree,” Anite wrote in her June 28 letter to the President.

She said that her classes at Tufts University would run between July 5 and August 28 this year.

“During my absence, Hon Minister David Bahati, Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development will hold my portfolio,” she said.

Recent reports in the media stated that Anite is subject to an investigation on the orders of the President for allegedly soliciting a bribe amounting to USD 8 million (She 28.8bn) from an investor.

The same reports speculated that the Minister whose docket largely involves interfacing with investors was likely to be sacked if found to have indeed taken the bribe.

But Anite has since dismissed the reports saying such claims are concocted by people who envy her job. In defense, the Minister said that the allegations were untrue given that she is the kind of person that would be willing to pursue something to the end without any financial gain.
