The long awaited elections for Local Council One and Two committees commence tomorrow Tuesday June 3, with polling for village women councils in all the 60,801 villages across the country.
According to the road map given by the Electoral Commission, only women who are 18 years and above are eligible to vote in the election which will take place in an open place and voters shall line behind candidates of their choice.
Voting is expected to begin with verification of voters at 9:00am before briefing voters on voting procedures at 11:00am. Thereafter, the electorate will line up behind candidates of their choice and be counted.
The village women committee consists of the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Publicity Secretary and Secretary for Finance.
Uganda has taken more than 10 years without holding village councils which has invigorated a section of people to front it as a cause for the increased criminality in the country.
Meanwhile, nomination of candidates for Village LC I Chairpersons will be conducted on July 4 and 5 which will be followed by campaigns from July 6 to 9.
Voting (also done by lining) will be conducted on Tuesday July 10 2018.
