Barely a day after Police in Kisoro recovered a Sub Machine Gun (SMG) rifle abandoned by the roadside, another rifle, a shortgun has also been discovered abandoned near a building.
On Wednesday morning, Police recovered an SMG number SAR NO.UG POL K425455-105348 at Nyamushungwa village, Mabungo parish Nyarusiza subcounty in Kisoro district. It is believed to belong to a private security company, RPS.
The rifle contained a single live bullet in the chamber while 3 other bullets are still not accounted for. It came after the Supervisor for RPS, the security firm to which the gun belonged had reported to Police the disappearance of one of their staffers identified Nsenjiyunva Robert.
In a related incident, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Matte says Police on Wednesday afternoon recovered another abandoned gun in Nyamwirima village Kisoro municipality.
The riffle number UG PSO 8000069-04489, a short gun had an empty magazine. It was recovered in front of un finished building. Inquiries to establish the suspects still ongoing.
This is the same gun that was robbed from a security guard, a one Habomugisha Clever at Mabuga SACCO during a heist on May 30.
“We are glad that both guns have been recovered before they did any damage. We hope our people remain that vigilant when they see anything of that nature,” Matte said.
He said investigations are still underway to establish the persons who were involved in the robbery at the SACCO.
