Pope Francis Meets With Ugandan Catholic Bishops on Pilgrimage

Pope Francis has met with a group of Catholic bishops from the Uganda who are currently on their visit to Rome.

The bishops, members of the Uganda Episcopal Conference are on their ‘ad Limina Apostolorum’, a pilgrimage to the tomb of the Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul.

The pilgrimage is canonically required of every bishop every three to ten years. On this visit he renders an account of the complete condition of his diocese to the Pope. If unable to go on this visit for lawful reasons, a delegate may be sent in the bishop’s place. Often abbreviated to “ad limina” visit.

Last Sunday, the Bishops who are led by Gulu Archbishop, John Baptist Odama, had a mass with the Uganda Community in Rome at the Uganda Martyrs Parish.

Their visit began on June 12 and will end on June 23.

The last visit ad limina of the bishops from Uganda was in March 2010, under Pope Ki Benedict XVI.
