The Commander of Tourism Police, Commissioner of Police (CP), Frank Mwesigwa has denied claims that he is hiding.
On Friday evening, social media was awash with claims that the former Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander was arrested. There was also a claim that he had fled the country while some media reports said he had been arrested.
Mwesigwa has this morning taken to his Twitter account to refute the reports.
“I am neither in hiding nor under any arrest as rumoured on social media platforms and New Vision Page 3 today,” Mwesigwa tweeted.
Several tweeps responded asking him to tweet when he is eventually arrested.
“Your boss was first rumoured as arrested, he was eventually arrested. Tweet us when you are eventually arrested,” one of the tweeps replied.
On Wednesday this week, the former police chief, Gen Kale Kayihura was flown to Kampala after the UPDF summoned him to Mbuya Military Headquarters. He has since been detained at Makindye Military Baracks over a number of allegations ranging from espionage, murder to illegal repatriation of refugees.
A number of his confidants including former Flying Squad Commander, Herbert Muhangi were earlier arrested. Others like Nixon Agasirwe are already facing the Military Court Martial for various crimes.
Reliable military sources have told SoftPower News that the detained police officers implicated the embattled Gen Kayihura when they stated that they acted on his orders.
It is still unclear whether Frank Mwesigwa will be arrested or not.
