“Last night, the late had worked at the main station as a duty officer. After handing over, he went to his workstation and was killed just near the police station as he crossed the road,” Kayima said in the statement.

He further said that the body of the deceased was later taken to the city mortuary for postmortem.

Kayima stressed that Police is hopeful that the driver will avail himself to make a statement adding that, in case of failure, they (Police) will conduct a search and hold him accountable.

“We hope that the driver on knowing this, will turn himself in, to record a statement with the Police or else, we shall look for this driver with a view of investigating the killing for prosecution purposes,” SSP Kayima added.

ASP Francis Kato was born in 1985 and graduated from Mbarara University of Science and technology with a bachelors degree in ICT.

He joined the Police Force in 2014 and until his death, he was the OC Kyebando Police Post.
