The ‘Lost and Found Property’ mobile Application (UPF Mobi App) was unveiled Monday through the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

While launching the App at Police headquarters, Naguru, the Police Chief Political Commissar, AIGP Asan Kasingye said that the App will reduce cases of unclaimed lost property among others.

“Many police stations are littered with many unclaimed properties or the owners cannot adduce enough evidence to prove that the property belongs to them,” AIGP Kasingye said.

He revealed that in many instances the public never get to know that their property is even in the hands of the police which sometimes, he said is auctioned by order of courts or if returned, it is never ever in its original form.

He said the App launch is in line with the Force’s five year Strategic Policing Plan that runs until the year 2020.

Kasingye noted that the Force has now started implementing the information management system that is expected to consist of six databases among which will include motor vehicle registration, drivers licence, license to carry fire arms, criminal database, crime statics, traffic accident, lost and found property, missing persons and arrest warrant database.

The Lost and Found App will as well have information about the nearest police stations with respective contacts of officers and the police leadership structure.

It will among others improve rights of people, reduce incidence of property crime, quick and timely reunification of property and their owners, improve access to information.

The public can access the App through visiting the police website www.upf.go.ug
